Thank you to all those that were able to attend our Grand Hubbub Opening today at our Arlington Campus! Piper opened this important sustainability and recycling initiative at our school with a few words and we also heard a special thanks from our Principal, Josh Brody, and Head of Campus (Arlington), Cressida Batterham-Wilson.
The Hubbub is our new recycling centre at Arlington for things that can’t go in our regular recycling bins at school or home but can, in fact, be recycled at speciality recycling plants or even better, can be reused!
Preshil will reduce its landfill by 85% by early 2023 so this will be an important part of the plan.
So far at the Hubbub, we are collecting (you are welcome to bring these items from home):
- Old pens and textas
- Unwanted or found hair ties and accessories
- Toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes and floss containers
- Clean milk bottle and soft drink bottle tops labelled 2 and 4
- Unwanted tissue paper
- Mismatching plastic lids and containers
The Hubbub will also be a place for staff to recycle items within the School such as:
- ink cartridges
There is also a very important ‘unsure box’ for items that you aren’t sure about! If you have asked your teachers and you still don’t know which bin it should go into, you can put it in the ‘unsure box’ for us to help find a solution.
Please let us know if you can think of anything else you would like to recycle of reuse. The Hubbub is for everyone and everyone is welcome to contribute ideas.
We will weigh and count what we collect and report the data back to the School community.
Thank you to Piper for bringing this idea to life and also for organising the collection containers and designing the beautiful labels. Thank you also to Paul for helping to initial Piper’s plans, Cressida for working with Pip and Rob to make this happen so quickly and a thank you to Rob for building the amazing custom-made shelving.
