Careers Update – Term 1 2024

Hello, I’m Bronte Howell, and I serve as Preshil’s Professional Careers Practitioner, Electives Coordinator, and the IB Diploma CAS Coordinator. In these roles, I coordinate the Year 11 and 12 CAS Program, a vital core subject in the Diploma Program. Additionally, I manage the Prep to Year 10 Electives, but my primary focus lies in designing and implementing the School’s Careers Program. These roles are intricately connected, forming an essential part of each student’s journey within the school and beyond.

I will be showcasing key aspects of these crucial experiences for students in the “Careers and Pathways” section of our new whole-school email newsletter. To keep you updated on the remarkable work happening in this realm, I will provide updates on these programs twice a term. As I draft this, we are amidst our exceptional Year 10 Careers Experience Week at our secondary campus. This event offers students opportunities to acquire accredited qualifications, engage in workshops, attend presentations, and hear from university representatives and various industry professionals.

Navigating future pathways can evoke a mix of excitement and uncertainty among students. Recognizing this, we strive to provide ample opportunities for students to immerse themselves in various professional realms, equipping them to confidently chart their course. I am proud to bring a rich set of transferable skills to my role, cultivated over 20+ years in Film, Television, Advertising, Business and Communications. Emphasising the importance of ‘Learning to Learn,’ fostering transferable skills, and embracing a growth mindset are all pivotal in preparing students for the future.

I look forward to sharing regular updates on this exciting journey and am open to any questions and suggestions you may have about Careers and Pathways via bronte.howell@preshil.vic.edu.au
