This occasion served as an opportunity for parents to witness firsthand the remarkable progress and achievements of their children, while fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
The event was thoughtfully designed to create a supportive and engaging environment, ensuring that parents were actively involved in celebrating their child’s educational journey. Preshil firmly believes that by actively engaging parents in this process, the bond between home and school can be strengthened, leading to a greater understanding and appreciation of each child’s unique growth.
The Celebration of Learning event unfolded in three captivating stages, each offering a distinct experience for attendees. The first stage, aptly named the “Welcome,” took place from 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm in The Cage. Below, you might like to hear some of our students share insight into their learning over the past few months:
Committee Participation
We believe in fostering a sense of responsibility, leadership, and active participation among our students. One way we encourage this is by providing ample opportunities for students to join various committees. These committees cover a wide range of interests and disciplines. By actively involving themselves in these committees, our students gain valuable skills such as teamwork, organisation, decision-making, and effective communication. They also develop a deeper understanding of their chosen fields of interest and actively contribute to the betterment of our school community. Through these experiences, our Secondary School students grow into well-rounded individuals who are confident, empathetic, and equipped with the necessary skills to become future leaders.
Creativity Action and Service (CAS)
Through CAS, our students have the opportunity to explore their interests, develop their creativity, and engage in meaningful service to the community. They participate in a wide range of activities such as art, music, drama, sports, community service projects, and leadership initiatives. This hands-on involvement not only allows our students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings but also fosters a sense of empathy, global awareness, and social responsibility. By actively participating in CAS, our students develop a well-rounded perspective, become more reflective individuals, and are better prepared to make positive contributions to society.
Electives and Careers
At our school, we are dedicated to preparing our students to become global citizens who are well-equipped for the workforce. To achieve this, we have developed an extensive Electives Program. The Electives Program offers a diverse range of courses that allow students to explore their passions and interests while developing valuable skills. These electives encompass various fields such as technology, business, humanities, and the arts, providing students with a well-rounded education that caters to their individual strengths and aspirations. Importantly, this pairs with our Year 10 Careers Week where students have the opportunity to engage with professionals from different industries, participate in workshops, and gain practical insights into potential career paths. Through this immersive experience, they acquire valuable knowledge about the job market, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and learn how to adapt to the dynamic demands of the workforce. By combining the Electives Program and Year 10 Careers Week, we ensure that our students are not only academically prepared but also possess the essential skills, global perspectives, and career awareness necessary to succeed in the modern world.
Personal Project
We believe in empowering our students to take ownership of their learning through the Personal Project. This culminating project, which is a part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme, allows our students to explore their passions, develop essential skills, and showcase their creativity. Throughout this learning journey, students engage in a self-directed inquiry, where they identify a topic of personal interest and set challenging goals for themselves. They learn how to conduct research, manage their time effectively, think critically, and communicate their ideas coherently. The Personal Project encourages our students to be independent learners, problem solvers, and resilient individuals. It hones their organizational and project management skills, fosters a sense of perseverance, and instills confidence in their ability to tackle real-world challenges. By the end of the Personal Project, our students emerge with a deep sense of accomplishment and a set of invaluable skills that will serve them well in their future academic pursuits and careers.
Changemaker Program
In our Secondary School, we are proud to offer the Changemaker Program, a unique initiative that empowers our students to become agents of positive change in their communities and beyond. The Changemaker Program is designed to cultivate students’ passion for making a difference and equip them with the necessary skills to address real-world challenges. Through a combination of workshops, experiential learning opportunities, and mentorship, students develop their leadership abilities, critical thinking skills, and social awareness. They learn about global issues, engage in social entrepreneurship projects, and collaborate with local organizations to implement sustainable solutions. The Changemaker Program encourages creativity, empathy, and collaboration, fostering a sense of responsibility and purpose in our students. By actively participating in this program, our students develop the mindset and capabilities needed to make a lasting impact on the world and become effective changemakers in their chosen fields.
Debating Teams
Our debating teams showcase exceptional talent and dedication. The Year 11 team has proven themselves to be undefeated, demonstrating their prowess in critical thinking, persuasive arguments, and effective communication. Their commitment to research, preparation, and teamwork has resulted in numerous victories and accolades, representing our school with pride. Similarly, our Year 9 team has also achieved commendable success, showcasing their emerging skills and passion for debate. Their performances in competitions have garnered positive feedback and recognition. Both teams benefit from expert guidance and mentorship, honing their skills through regular practice sessions and workshops. The success of our debating teams reflects not only their talent but also the supportive and nurturing environment at our school that encourages students to excel in their chosen pursuits.
Sport and Thursday Throwdown
At our Secondary School, we have a strong commitment to fostering a culture of sports and physical activity for all students, regardless of their skill level. To encourage participation and create a fun and inclusive environment, we have introduced the “Thursday Throwdown” initiative during lunchtimes. This regular event provides an opportunity for students to engage in various sports activities, games, and challenges. Whether it’s a friendly basketball match, a soccer scrimmage, or a relay race, the emphasis is on active involvement, enjoyment, and friendly competition. Students of all skill levels are encouraged to participate, try new sports, and develop their abilities in a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere. The Thursday Throwdown promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among students, fostering a sense of belonging and a love for physical activity. We firmly believe that everyone can find their place in sports, and our commitment to inclusivity ensures that all students have the chance to participate, improve their skills, and have a great time.
Music and School Production
Our Secondary School boasts a vibrant and dynamic music program that nurtures and celebrates the musical talents of our students. We provide a wide array of instrumental opportunities, allowing students to explore and develop their musical abilities. Our dedicated music teachers offer instrumental lessons in various disciplines, including piano, guitar, violin, drums, and brass instruments, fostering a well-rounded musical education. Furthermore, our school production, ‘Spamalot,’ serves as a highlight of our music program, bringing together students from different year levels to create an unforgettable theatrical experience. Students have the opportunity to showcase their singing, acting, and dancing skills, as well as their musical talents as part of the live orchestra accompanying the production. Through our music program and the school production, we encourage creativity, teamwork, self-expression, and a deep appreciation for the performing arts, providing students with a platform to shine and fostering a love for music that will last a lifetime.
Following these presentations, attendees had the freedom to explore the exhibits, displays, and activities at their own pace, creating an atmosphere of leisure and enjoyment. This format allowed families to immerse themselves in the diverse talents and interests of the students, fostering a deeper understanding and connection with their child’s educational journey. Throughout the event, the sense of pride and accomplishment was palpable, as parents and students came together to celebrate the remarkable growth and achievements of each individual.
