Middle Years Programme (MYP) Update – Term 1 2024

The Chinese proverb, “Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself,” encapsulates the immense journey our students have travelled thus far, in 2024, as they continue to pursue lives of purpose and meaning, through a Preshil MYP education. Being afforded the privilege of leading the MYP at Preshil, has enabled me to focus on my own moral imperatives as an educator; walking alongside our staff and students role modelling best practice in an internationally minded context, building respectful and authentic relationships, demonstrating an optimistic attitude, and always at the fore of my position as an educator, ensuring that the students in my care, are emotionally nurtured, educationally enriched and holistically ‘nourished’. Encapsulated perfectly by William Shain, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, Vanderbilt University, the MYP, ‘is a thoughtful and genuinely intellectual curriculum with an unusually high degree of integrity and connectedness. There is no other curriculum anywhere that does a superior job of both educating students, and inspiring a true and broad-based love of learning.’ The significant contributions made at Preshil, by both the innovative and passionate teaching and non-teaching staff, cannot be understated, and are testament to their resolute commitment in providing students across the middle years program, with contemporary, and engaging units of inquiry, agency, and space to share and celebrate their learning. Complemented by captivating elective opportunities, the inspirational Changemaker program, the after school sports program, and so much more, the MYP at Preshil, is an academic space that continues to challenge, motivate, and inspire our Preshil students; onwards (with courage) and upwards (with kindness).
