PRESHIL WEEKLY

Hello Preshil community,

I hope this message finds you well. I thought this week I could speak to you all in a slightly different format so here is a video containing my thoughts on the first few weeks in the role of Principal here at Preshil.

Curriculum Review Updates

Last week, we launched our High School and Primary School Parent Surveys. If you haven’t already completed this we encourage you to do so by accessing the relevant links below –

This week we pushed out our student surveys and held our first in-person parent consultation workshops. These workshops are open to all interested members of our parent community and will be held at the following times:

Primary School
Tuesday, June 11th, 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm Arlington Library

High School
Tuesday, June 11th, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm BK Library

Attached here is our Educational Review Terms of Reference.

Warm regards,

Aaron Mackinnon
Principal

THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Save The Pines Student Initiative Update
We were delighted to welcome back the Chair of the Preshil’s Board, Emma Zipper, to speak with the children about The Pines. And the news could not have been better. The council has found a way to Save The Pines.

Theatre Excursion
The Year 10, 11 and 12 Theatre excursion to the MTC’ s production of Julia was nothing short of brilliant. Some students and teachers not only gave the performance a standing ovation but they were reduced to tears. MTC’s Julia is an imaginative exploration of what happened in Gillard’s life in the lead-up to her iconic misogyny speech. Students engaged in a pre-show talk and Q&A with actor Justine Clarke and were able to gain insight into the creation and performance of this powerful work. The experience was inspiring and thought provoking and we look forward to seeing how this will manifest in student work in the coming weeks.

Kindergarten Pizza Chefs
Our Kinder children were joined by special guests, Claire and Josh (Remy’s parents), who brought in their pizza oven to make individual pizzas for everyone. Thanks to Claire and Josh (and Happy Birthday to Remy!).

Year 8 Science Incursion
On Monday, our students participated in the “Geology Rocks” science incursion presented by Fizzics Education. The incursion provided a hands-on exploration of the world of rocks, minerals, and the Earth’s structure. Students engaged in interactive activities that deepened their understanding of geological processes and the significance of geology in our everyday lives. The enriching experience sparked curiosity and excitement among our budding scientists.

Loft Room Sleepover
The Loft Room children had their school sleepover last night. We went on a night time walk, spotted a possum, did some stargazing, and then rugged up in our sleeping bags in the loft room for a good night’s sleep.
