At Preshil, we create learning environments where young people feel supported, known and ready to grow. Our transition and orientation programs are thoughtfully designed to build self-awareness, confidence and a strong sense of belonging, ensuring each student begins their learning journey with care and intention.
Every transition is shaped around the individual. By taking the time to understand each child, we support them to step forward with confidence—laying the foundations for lifelong learning.
Learn more about our tailored approach to transition and orientation below.
Kindergarten
We understand how significant a child’s first experience of a school environment can be. Joining Kindergarten is approached as a gentle, gradual process, designed to support each child to settle in feeling safe, comfortable and curious.
Change can feel big for young children, so our transition program is tailored to the needs of each individual. Children are given time to explore their new environment, form relationships with educators and peers, and build familiarity at their own pace.
In the early weeks we are flexible, and offer reduced session times if needed, to allow children to ease into the rhythm of Kindergarten. This slower start supports children to learn names, engage in small groups and confidently navigate an unfamiliar setting—helping them feel secure, happy and ready to learn.
Prep
Starting Prep is an exciting step, and we ensure every child feels welcomed and supported as they begin primary school. A series of transition events creates opportunities for new students to connect with their teachers, classmates and learning spaces.
Orientation mornings allow children to spend time with their new class and educators, including specialist teachers at the Arlington campus. These sessions help students build familiarity and confidence in their surroundings.
Primary School
As children move through Primary School, we place strong emphasis on developing a positive sense of self. Feeling confident, capable and understood is central to a child’s ability to engage with learning.
Our daily routines encourage independent thinking, collaboration and problem-solving. Through consistent communication and shared experiences, students learn how to work together, reflect on their learning and apply their skills in meaningful, real-world ways.
Secondary School
At Preshil, we support young people to thrive academically, socially and emotionally as they transition into Secondary School.
Students and families are guided through information evenings, engaging orientation experiences and personalised subject selection conversations. This ensures every student feels informed, equipped and confident as they step into the next stage of their learning journey—ready to take ownership of their education and shape their path forward.
