The Year 9 Experience is a defining moment in a young person’s time at Preshil.
It invites students to step beyond the familiar, learn about other cultures, shift perspectives, and see themselves, and the world more clearly.
Over 11 days, students travel through the East Kimberley, beginning in Darwin and journeying through Katherine, Lake Argyle and El Questro, before spending time in Kununurra. In Kununurra, students work alongside local organisations in partnership with a remote Indigenous community. Through hands-on contributions, students come to understand how small actions can create a real impact and how service strengthens community.
Throughout the journey, students are supported to take responsibility for themselves and each other. They are encouraged to speak up, stand by their values and question thoughtfully. Away from the distractions of everyday life, students cultivate deeper connections with their peers. They learn to communicate across differences, gain insight into Indigenous culture, and develop empathy through shared experience.
Students return with a stronger sense of perspective, connection and pride—carrying with them a deeper understanding of Australia, community and their place within it.
