Year 10 Careers Week
Year 10 Careers Experience Week was a dynamic, immersive program designed to build real-world skills and expand students’ understanding of future pathways.
The week began with a Welcome to Careers session, setting the tone for a hands-on, exploratory experience. Students engaged with LCI Melbourne through a creative workshop, developing a 30-second TikTok campaign, strengthening skills in communication, creativity, and planning.
A highlight was the Mindflight7 VR experience, where students explored diverse careers such as aviation, healthcare, and the arts. Industry insights were deepened through sessions with Project for Hope and Kangan Institute, introducing purpose-driven pathways and VET options.
Students also completed accredited Barista and Safe Food Handling training, gaining practical employability skills, alongside learning about workplace rights from the Victorian Young Workers Centre. The week concluded with the VCE & Careers Expo, where students confidently engaged with tertiary providers. Overall, the experience emphasised that future success lies in combining technical skills with human-centred capabilities.
Grow Your Mind at Arlington
To begin the term, our Grow Your Mind character strength focus is Tact.
Tact is about telling the truth in a way that does not upset or offend others. As children develop tact, they begin to understand what is important to say, and what may be better left unsaid.
We are encouraging children to pause and think before speaking by asking themselves: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? This simple framework supports respectful communication and helps build awareness of how words can affect others.
Each day, classes take part in our “Grab Five” wellbeing approach — short, consistent sessions that include mindfulness, positive self-talk, simple activities, reflection, and gratitude. These small moments help build a shared language around emotions and support children to connect with both their own feelings and those of others.
The Great Book Swap
We’re excited to be hosting a Great Book Swap in support of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
A Book Swap is a simple and meaningful way to share stories—children bring along a pre-loved book and swap it for another. On the day, there will also be an opportunity to make a small donation, with every $10 helping to provide a new, culturally relevant book (including books in First Languages) to children in remote Communities across Australia, where access to books can be limited.
Our school Book Swap will take place on Tuesday 26th May, and we’re now calling for book donations to help stock the swap. If you have any good quality children’s books at home that are ready for a new reader, we’d love to receive them.
A collection box will be available in Reception at Arlington.
Thank you for helping us share the joy of reading while supporting an important cause.

Chess supports young people to think critically, solve problems, plan strategically and build confidence, while strengthening skills such as concentration, memory, reasoning and decision-making.
