Exploring Our Students Backgrounds In Year 7 Music
Over the term, Year 7 Music has explored the diverse backgrounds of our class through traditional music and food experiences.
Students have developed a deeper appreciation of one another’s cultural experiences, discovering how music, food and celebrations help identify, express and connect people with their cultures.
Our sincere gratitude goes to the generous Roshan, Le Pou, Lewis, Samarapathi and Ozark families for sharing their knowledge, delicious food and traditional music with us.
A special thank you to Cori Le Pou for teaching us part of the Māori Haka. Pictured are Nicole and Emily with the Jewish food shared by their family.

Loftie Student Showcase Inquiry on Forces and Simple Machines
This term, the Lofties have been investigating contact and non-contact forces; noticing how simple machines help direct force in their daily lives.
Along the way, they explored simple machines like levers, wheels and axles, pulleys, inclined planes, wedges, and screws; researching how each one works and where it is seen in the world around us.
To bring this learning together, the class formed five collaborative groups - developing skills to work and communicate as a team, each designing and building their own Rube Goldberg 'marble run' creation. Every group's design incorporates at least three simple machines, working together in sequence so that one machine's movement triggers the next.
During the conference, students reflected about problem solving; when things don't work, what they enjoyed and walked through their creations with their families.

Preshil Receives Grant from the Albert & Barbara Tucker Foundation
We are delighted to announce that we have received grant funding from the Albert & Barbara Tucker Foundation to support the development of Preshil in Focus, an exciting project celebrating the extraordinary creative ethos of our School.
Established to honour the legacy of renowned Australian artists Albert Tucker and Barbara Tucker, the Foundation supports initiatives that celebrate and advance the visual arts. We are honoured to have received its support for this important project.
Preshil in Focus will bring together the work of Preshil alumni and current students, celebrating the creativity, experimentation and intellectual freedom that have long been hallmarks of a Preshil education. It will provide opportunities for current Preshil students to engage with our alumni artists through artist talks, mentor sessions, masterclasses, and studio visits. The project will culminate in a public exhibition showcasing the diverse artistic practices of our community and the enduring impact of progressive education.
The exhibition is proposed for 2027 - 2028 (subject to venue and programming availability).
Our sincere thanks to the Albert & Barbara Tucker Foundation for its generosity and belief in the value of arts education, creative practice and the enduring impact of Preshil as a creative centred community.
A Giant Win for Our Library
Back in July, Arlington children joined thousands of young readers across Australia for a special live-streamed book launch with Andy Griffiths, hosted by State Library Victoria.
To celebrate the release of his new book, You & Me and the Gigantic Knucklehead, Andy took us on a virtual adventure into the Land of Giants, sharing stories, drawing and creative writing ideas along the way. Children were then invited to put their imaginations to work and submit their own creations.
With more than 1,435 entries submitted, we were very excited to discover that one of ours was selected! Our prize has now arrived: a signed copy of You & Me and the Gigantic Knucklehead, along with a copy of Andy's Let's Go! — two fantastic new additions to our library.
A lovely reminder of where a little imagination, curiosity and a good story can take you. Congratulations to everyone who joined in!

Theatresports School Challenge This Sunday
19 Preshil Titans will take to the stage this Sunday, representing our school at Theatresports. Four teams (including some reigning champions) will battle it out for Team Preshil. Who will take home the Theatresports Championship?
The more Preshil supporters in the audience, the more confident our champions will feel. So come along, get behind our teams and help us cheer them on! We look forward to seeing you all there!

Our final Grow Your Mind character strength focus for the term is Curiosity. Curiosity encourages us to look more closely, ask questions, try unfamiliar things and seek out the interesting side of what is around us.
Through our Grab Five wellbeing sessions, children are exploring the idea that curiosity can change the way we approach something. Rather than quickly deciding that something is boring or not for us, we can pause, look again and ask, “What’s interesting here that I haven’t noticed yet?”
Children have been encouraged to generate questions, follow curiosity trails and find something surprising in even the most ordinary objects. Curiosity can also give us the confidence to try a new experience, explore someone else’s ideas or simply wonder, “What if…?”
You might notice our Curiosity chalkboard at Arlington this fortnight, inviting everyone who passes by to look, ask, wonder and explore.

Preshil Reunion
Preshil alumni who share the Blackhall, Kalimna or Yallambee experience are invited to come together for an afternoon of old friends, shared stories, photos and memorabilia — and a farewell to Kalimna.

Holiday Workshops at Preshil
Square Academy’s Learning Lab will be hosting a series of engaging holiday workshops at Preshil’s Arlington Campus during the Term 3 school holidays.
Designed to foster curiosity and a love of learning, the workshops offer students the opportunity to explore Maths, Art, Science and Technology in a hands-on and creative environment.
This holiday program includes MART (Maths + Art) on Tuesday 29 September, CAD and 3D Printing on Wednesday 30 September, and Squid Dissection on Thursday 1 October. Workshops are available for students in Grades 3–9, with sessions tailored to different age groups.
