Welcome to another exciting week at Preshil.
We hope you enjoy reading about activities across our Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary campuses.
Music, Culture and Identity
This term, Year 7 students are exploring the powerful relationship between music and culture.
Beginning with Irish music, students learned about the bodhrán (Irish drum), explored the Great Famine, shared a bowl of potatoes and learned to dance an Irish jig! They will continue investigating music from their own cultural backgrounds - Persia next week! - exploring traditional instruments, dances, celebrations, food and the stories that connect music to identity and community.

VCE VM Work Related Skills Guest Speaker
This week, Preshil welcomed documentary filmmaker Nicholas Wightman to our VM Applied Learning Studio.
Nick shared his professional journey with students, demonstrating how a successful and fulfilling career in the creative industries can be built through pathways beyond the traditional ATAR route.
Drawing on his experience across documentary filmmaking, animation and digital media, Nick spoke about the importance of developing a diverse range of skills, from creativity and ICT to communication, collaboration and professional networking. His career provides a valuable example of how curiosity, persistence and a willingness to pursue opportunities can shape an individual pathway into the creative industries.
Nick’s visit strongly reflected the philosophy of the VCE Vocational Major: that education can take many forms, and that following your interests while developing practical, transferable skills can open the door to meaningful and rewarding future careers.
Tournament of Minds – This Saturday 15 August
This Saturday, three Preshil teams from our Arlington campus will be taking part in Tournament of Minds.
Over the past few weeks, our students have worked incredibly hard, tackling challenges requiring creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, persistence and plenty of thinking outside the box.
Tournament of Minds is about more than finding the right answer, it’s about how students think, collaborate, persevere and adapt along the way.
We’re incredibly proud of our three teams and wish them all the very best for Saturday. Go Preshil! We can’t wait to see what you create!

Year 11 VCE Biology students
In the lead-up to National Science Week next week, our Year 11 VCE Biology students got hands-on in the lab this week, taking part in a sheep pluck dissection to explore the structure and function of the circulatory and respiratory systems.
Practical learning like this gives students the opportunity to see biology up close, connect classroom theory with real anatomy, and deepen their understanding through investigation and discovery. A great way to kick-start the science celebrations at Preshil!
Welcoming New Teacher to Arlington
A warm welcome to Fiona Collins, who has recently joined our Arlington community as the co-teacher of our 4/5 class.
Fiona brings extensive primary teaching and leadership experience from the UK and Dubai, with a strong background in inquiry-based learning, student wellbeing and the IB Primary Years Programme.
Fiona is passionate about creating classrooms where children feel known, supported and encouraged to be curious, reflective learners, a wonderful fit with Preshil's approach to education. Outside the classroom, Fiona is also a published children's author, having written children's books. We're very excited to welcome Fiona to the Preshil community!
